Passion project poems

A project for school - here are my poems

Out the window, I saw –
The polka dots of sheep
The hills that gently rose and fell
Like loaves of bread
The wind that loved to dance
With the trees
The kaleidoscope of colours
That embraced the land
The warm reds,
The alluring golds,
That splashed the country
With life

A metaphor potrait on my grandma (She lives in South Africa while I am here in New Zealand.)

Metaphor Portrait

My grandma is red like the sweltering African heat
She is the savannah
My grandma is an African sunset – an alluring gold, a melting red
She is a rock, steady and trustworthy
My grandma is a rose, sweet smelling and beautiful
She is a diesel engine, not the fanciest or the fastest but very reliable
My grandma is summer, warmth and light
My grandma is a blue moon, rare and special
My grandma is a rainbow
She is the book you can’t put down
She is the teddy bear you can’t throw away
She is the fire
She is sunlight, she is love

My imitation of a limerick. Hope you like it!

The Snickerdee

High up in the Tum-tum tree
Futher up than eyes can see
There lives a cheeky, little beast
That only only comes out in the blue moon feast
He is the naughty Snickerdee!

Playing around with words!

Thinking of home

Here, in this foreign world
In the cool, velvet evening
I watch the sunset
The thought of home
Burning my mind
I think of the people I left
The teddy bear abandoned
On my window sill
The beauty and splendour
It is
The most amazing
The most wonderful
place on earth
I think of the forest
Childhood summers
The taste of the apples
From the twisting tree
in our orchard
I think of the land
A part of me
But watching this sunset
Here,
Now,
I think
Maybe possibility
Here in this foreign world

Haikus - a comp was coming out and I imediately entered
Here are some of the haikus I wrote

These are traditional- seasonal ones

A gentle spring breeze
Flowers swaying in the meadow
New life's beginning

The sweet summer sunshine
Warms my face
As I laze on the beach

Golds and reds splash the trees
A breeze blows restless across the land
A kaliedescope of colours

Winter blues
Cold mornings, grey skies-
Summer a world away

Here are a few that are more modern

From the window I saw rising hills
And the polkadots of sheep
It was love at first sight

I quarrel with my mother
Fuming in the dead of night,
I hear a gentle knock

On cold, winter mornings
I watch the world from my window
And I know I am home

Laughter, friendship, family
I capture the moment
And live life to the fullest
